playa venao sea turtle tour

From approximately August to February, mama sea turtles are nesting and babies are being born (mostly the olive ridley species) along the Azuero Peninsula and it’s the ideal time for a Playa Venao sea turtle tour.

Tortugas Playa Venao is a grass roots non-profit organization that conducts educational and hands on sea turtle tours on the beach in Playa Venao. This tour takes you out at dawn or nighttime, depending on sea turtle activity and tides.

You will meet your tour guide(s) near La Barca beach bar in Eco Venao. The tour will start at the sea turtle nursery. During egg laying season (from the beginning of the season until the nursery is full, typically in December), you will continue along the beach where you will be looking for mamas to tag and collect eggs to transport to the nursery. When babies are being born (approximately September to February), you will observe and protect the babies on their way to the sea.

By taking this tour, you are helping to support a local organization who is making a BIG difference to the sea turtles of Playa Venao!
