The Azuero Peninsula, located in the southern region of Panama, is a treasure trove of diverse landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and abundant activities—ranging from mountains and jungles to farmland, monkeys, birds, beaches, surfing, fishing, hiking, and more.

Two of the peninsula’s crown jewels are Isla Iguana and Isla Cañas. Isla Iguana is a pristine national reserve renowned for its white sandy beaches and vibrant coral reefs, making it a haven for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The island is also a sanctuary for a variety of wildlife, including frigate birds and iguanas, which gave the island its name. Accessing Isla Iguana is easy with a short boat ride from Pedasí, offering visitors the chance to explore its natural beauty and marine life. Isla Cañas is a national reserve with a 14-kilometer stretch of beach that serves as the seasonal nesting ground for Olive Ridley sea turtles. Accessing Isla Cañas requires a boat trip with a local guide, and a visit during nesting season offers a rare glimpse into the life cycle of these magnificent creatures. A visit to these islands provide a unique opportunity to experience Panama’s rich biodiversity up close.

exploring & sharing the azuero peninsula
about your guide
Until taking the leap to become a Panamá expat, I was a lifelong Californian—raised in the north and educated in the south. During my 33 year hiatus in San Diego, I married, raised two kids, found myself while wandering the world, divorced, fled the burbs, incorporated, and committed to hitting my twilight years without regrets and with loads of fascinating stories.
My life has been a dot-to-dot journey that has led me to where I am now. Along the way, I managed to excavate my authentic self under layer upon layer of other people’s beliefs, developed a fierce passion for wandering the world and an insatiable hunger for nature, discovered that I cannot breathe in the typical American life, and chose Cañas, Panamá as my new home.
This website is a loving tribute to Panamá, and particularly the Azuero Peninsula and the community of Cañas. As my partner, Ken, and I explore the country, I will share our favorite treasures—activities, places to stay, and more—so you can experience them, too!
